After its first five years in the Town Centre Building in downtown Cedar Rapids, The Early Bird is spreading its wings and moving this fall.
The new space in the former Smulekoff’s building on First Street will allow the popular coffee shop and gathering space to expand its seating and kitchen area to include a stove and oven, says Top Chickadee Brooke Fitzgerald. Hours will also expand to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and beers and wine will be available.
“We still want to remain a coffee shop, but we want to expand our niche meeting place to the afternoon business clientele,” Ms. Fitzgerald said. “We don’t want to compete with local restaurants.”
The move is expected to be complete by October.
