Best Credit Union: University of Iowa Community Credit Union

The University of Iowa Community Credit Union’s focus on efficiency and member services has paid off in average annual growth of 19 percent over the last 19 years, and its fourth Best Credit Union win. The organization’s business model focuses on keeping overhead low and operational costs lean, enabling UICCU to offer some of the best interest rates in the state on mortgages, auto and commercial loans. The credit union has also recently expanded into wealth management and insurance – areas which are growing rapidly. “I think that [growth] is a testament not only to the business model, but to the caliber of staff it allows us to attract and retain,” CEO Jeff Disterhoft said. With $4.2 billion in assets and 420 employees, UICCU is the biggest in Iowa. After opening new locations in Bettendorf and West Des Moines last year, it will open a branch on Blairs Ferry Road in Cedar Rapids this month.
