Eastern Iowa Dental Center opens doors to first patients

Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC), a comprehensive primary health care service provider at at 1225 Third Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, announces the new Eastern Iowa Dental Center began seeing patients March 6.

The Eastern Iowa Dental Center is the third in a series of renovation and expansion initiatives completed by Eastern Iowa Health Center in the past 12 months. The remodeled and expanded Eastern Iowa Health Center opened in October 2016 and the new Eastern Iowa Women’s Health Center opened in January. Combined, the projects have created more than 30 new jobs and expanded health care services available to low income residents in the community.

EIHC President and CEO Joe Lock states the opening of Eastern Iowa Dental Center will help to fill a need for many in the community.

“Of the over 50,000 patients we serve each year at Eastern Iowa Health Center, including the most vulnerable in our community, many have never seen a dentist or have not had a dental check-up in several years,” Mr. Lock stated in a press release. “We expect to serve over 1,700 patients in the first 12 months at the new center, furthering our mission to be a medical home to our community.”

Approximately $800,000 of the funding for the $1 million renovation of the new dental center was provided through cash and in-kind gifts, including grants from the Hall-Perrine Foundation, Aegon Transamerica Foundation, Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation and Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation.
