2nd time on the list
Compass Commercial Services, a commercial construction company based in Hiawatha, has made the Fastest Growing Companies list for the second time.
Last year, it was No. 4, with 189 percent growth.
“We attribute our growth to exceptional customer service, exceeded only by our unbeatable quality,” Joe Ahmann, who started the company in 2008 with his wife, Donna Ahmann, stated in an email. “We deliver what we say we will deliver, on time and on budget, so there are no surprises at the end of the project.”
The two own four companies, Ahmann Design, Ahmann Properties, launched in 1994, and Fusion Architects and Compass Commercial Services, both started in 2008. They employ about 14 people.
“Our team is experienced in project management, maintenance management and master-plan development, making us well-rounded to deliver a finished project that is exactly what is expected by our customers,” Mr. Ahmann stated. “We are excellent communicators and will work with our customers in any way that makes them feel the most comfortable throughout the entire process from conception to move in.”
The company is working on a number of projects, including The Fountains, a 19.3-acre mixed-use development under construction at the intersection of Edgewood Road NE and Blairs Ferry Road NE, Cedar Rapids. The company also led the Hiawatha project, Boyson Square, a mixed-use development with a daycare, restaurant, fitness center and office space.
“We are a true ‘design build’ firm,” Mr. Ahmann stated. “We started our careers on the design side and then moved into construction, where most start directly on the construction side and then hire out the design services. We can control the project from both sides and this allows us to value engineer each project from day one of the process. This makes our process very efficient and keeps the overall costs and time line of the project down.”
