Library shows off progress, envisions enhanced experience

CEDAR RAPIDS–Forget everything you think you know about public libraries.

For Bob Pasicznyuk, the philosophy of the new downtown library is to turn traditional rules and norms upside down.

“For us, it was about establishing an experience first, then figuring out how books fit into that,” he said. “Books are just one piece of the puzzle.”

Mr. Pasicznyuk, the library’s director, and other staff guided members of the media through the under-construction space on Oct. 9. The new library, expected to be complete in summer 2013, is 94,000 square feet, around 10,000 square feet larger than the previous library. Construction crews are working to enclose the building to work through the winter.
