Best Senior Living Community: Meth-Wick Community

FIRST TIME ON LIST

One of the things that make Meth-Wick Community so special is its campus, “a rare jewel in the midst of Cedar Rapids,” said Robin Mixdorf, president of this year’s Best Senior Living honoree. “With 65 acres of beautiful timber and gentle rolling lawns, privacy and Mother Nature are valued features of senior living in our retirement community.”

The differences between Meth-Wick and other senior living options don’t end with the real estate. The community’s nonprofit status “keeps us focused on serving our residents rather than bending to the wishes of shareholders,” Ms. Mixdorf said, adding “we’re not just a senior care organization that offers wellness services to residents who might want them. Instead, we’ve cultivated a campus culture focused on wellness that also provides options for care.”

Offering five styles of living, from total independence to total nursing care, the community’s focus on satisfying residents is reflected in its full occupancy for yet another year. Not content to rest on its laurels, Meth-Wick has received approval to build a four-room bariatric care wing that will allow it to serve a niche patient population that has no other options for care in the Cedar Rapids area.
