Mercy Medical Center named one of nation’s 100 Top Hospitals

For the fifth consecutive year, Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids was named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics, part of the IBM Watson Health business.

Mercy is the only hospital in Iowa to receive the 2017 designation and the only hospital in Iowa to achieve the distinction consecutively for the last five years.

The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals is a comprehensive, academically-driven study. It evaluates clinical and operational performance in 11 areas, addressing: inpatient mortality; 30-day mortality rate; complications; core measures; 30-day risk-adjusted readmission rate; severity-adjusted average length of stay; mean emergency room throughput; inpatient expense per discharge; Medicare spend per beneficiary; adjusted operating profit margin; and Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) score (patient rating of overall hospital performance).

The winning hospitals were announced in the March 6 edition of Modern Healthcare magazine. For more information on Mercy’s quality and safety measures, visit www.mercycare.org/quality.
