What was your biggest break?

In 2012, I asked my boss (and good friend, Shawn Reineke) about some ways to get more involved in the community. My wife and I had decided that this is where we wanted to put down roots, and I needed to find a way to give back to my home. He suggested that I get involved in the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors. It’s not hyperbole to say that it was completely transformational for me and my career.

What’s something people should know about your generation in the workplace?

As an older millennial, I think it’s important that people understand that we’ll be fiercely loyal if we find the right mission and purpose. Millennials unfairly get a bad rap. The reality is that we want to connect and collaborate and do work that is meaningful.

What is the biggest issue facing the Corridor?

I think our biggest challenge is workforce. Workforce is a really big and broad challenge, and there’s no easy way to approach it. We, as a region, need to continue to tell the story about what makes this the best place in the world to live. We need to bring people back home who have left for or after college, attract a talented and diverse workforce, and be ready to shout proudly that we have the right jobs and lifestyle to meet their needs.
